Transposed indoors, this inspiration creates a warm and minimalist decor, halfway between Scandinavian and coastal styles. Three rules suffice:
- Authentic materials: solid wood, rattan, washed linen, stoneware, rope.
- A restrained palette: off-white base, light wood, then a single accent color.
- Few objects: three well-chosen pieces are better than a pile of seashells.
The color palette of a surf interior
Start with a neutral, warm background: off-white, sand, ecru. Light wood provides the link. Then, choose a single accent color, used two or three times in the room (a textile, an object, a wall board):
- Jade green: the water on calm days, perfect for a bedroom or bathroom.
- High tide blue: deeper, it structures a bright living room.
- Powder pink: the light at the end of a session, very soft in an entryway or child's room.

Where and how to install them
Two arrangements work particularly well:
- Hung on the wall, above a console, a sideboard, or a headboard. Align the two sizes from the bottom rather than the center: the eye follows the line of the board tails, the result is much cleaner.
- Placed, leaning against the wall, on a shelf, a dresser, or a fireplace mantel. This is the no-drilling solution, ideal for renters, and it replicates the natural gesture of a surfer setting down their board.
Some tips to avoid mistakes:
- Allow approximately 25 to 30 cm between the top of the furniture and the bottom of the board so that the whole remains visually connected.
- In an M + L duo, leave 5 to 10 cm between the two boards: enough to distinguish them, but little enough for them to form a unit.
- Surround them with matte materials (linen, rattan, stoneware): the wood will stand out even more.
Room by room
- Entryway: a duo above a console, a rattan basket, a round mirror. The entryway sets the tone for the entire house; it's the most impactful spot.
- Living room: a single board above the sideboard, echoing a textile of the same color.

Mistakes to avoid
- Accumulating maritime clichés: anchor + rudder + fishing net; you'll end up with a themed decor. A single strong reference is enough.
- Multiplying accent colors: beyond two, the coastal harmony disappears.
- Under-sizing the hanging: a small isolated board on a large bare wall gets lost. In this case, prefer the M + L duo or lean it against a piece of furniture.
